Community Legal Aid (CLA) is the non-profit legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to low-income residents of central and western Massachusetts. CLA has over 100 staff working across multiple offices, and a budget of $11 million.

CLA seeks a housing attorney to work in its Worcester, Mass. office on an exciting new pilot project focused on fee-generating cases. The initial term of employment is for one year, but is subject to extension depending on the success of the pilot. The attorney will represent tenants in eviction cases and in litigation designed to help improve their housing conditions and prevent homelessness. Many of these cases will involve fee-shifting claims which, if successful, may result in an award of attorney's fees. The goal of the pilot is to explore whether instead of grant funding a legal aid staff attorney can be sustained with revenue from attorney's fees.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Admission to Mass. Bar or entitlement to practice under SJC Rule 3:04 is required. Experience in landlord-tenant work preferred, as is fluency in Spanish. Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to work in a collaborative setting are important.

Please submit cover letter and resume to the link provided.  If  you are unable to apply electronically, please send your cover letter and resume to: asmith@cla-ma.org, or Alexandra Smith, HR & Accounting Assistant, Community Legal Aid, 405 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01608. CLA is an Equal Opportunity Employer and strives to ensure that our staff members reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. CLA encourages applicants from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.
